Bobby Womack

After listening to the new Gorillaz album (which features a guest appearance by Bobby Womack), I was reminded of how badass Womack’s song, “Across 110th Street” is. Even if the title doesn’t ring a bell, you’d probably know it to hear it.

It first appeared in the 1973 blaxploitation film of the same name. More than two decades later, filmmaker and soul music aficionado Quentin Tarantino included the song in the opening sequence to his blaxploitation homage, Jackie Brown. I’d recommend downloading the original from iTunes, but I’ve also included the clip from the movie to help jog your memory. It’s a cool tune… and a clever choice of music for the film.
