If you’ve never listened to the NPR show, Fresh Air… you really should. Host Terry Gross can always be counted on to ask intelligent questions of the acclaimed filmmakers, authors and musicians who appear on her program. What’s more, you can also download the podcast version free of charge from iTunes.
Punk legend Patti Smith recently sat down with Terry to talk about her new memoir, Just Kids. It’s a remarkably candid interview, detailing her early years in New York City and complicated relationship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. (As you may know, Mapplethorpe shot the iconic photo of Smith, picture above.)
Smith doesn’t do a lot of interviews, especially ones this in-depth. So if you’re a fan… be sure to check it out.
